All around the world today cities, towns and communities become Irish for this special St Patrick day. In a normal year parades would fill the streets of all the major capitals of the world. New York, San Francisco, London etc.
In 2017 Kilkenny City and Malbork Poland signed their full twinning agreement. for a number of years a delegation would come to Kilkenny and join the Members of the Municipal District at the Mayor’s St Patrick’s Night Dinner. Alas not 2021. with the Covid pandemic unfortunately on the rise again across Europe travel to and from Poland is unlikely for some months yet.
But Our good friends are still celebrating in style with us. City hall and government buildings will be all shinning in a beautiful emerald colour once darkness falls across the Malbork Sky line

17 marca przypada narodowe święto Irlandii, Dzień św. Patryka. Przed pandemią było to jedno z najchętniej obchodzonych świąt na świecie. W wielu miejscach na zielono podświetlane są również charakterystyczne dla danego miejsca budynki i obiekty.Podobnie będzie w tym roku w Malborku. Tym razem wieczorem na zielono zaświecą okna sali obrad w Urzędzie Miasta Malborka. W ten sposób połączyliśmy się z Kilkenny, naszym partnerskim miastem na “Zielonej Wyspie”.
Dzień Świętego Patryka to święto związane z patronem Irlandii. Legenda głosi, że sprowadził on chrześcijaństwo na wyspę, spopularyzował zieloną koniczynę i uwolnił Irlandię od węży. 17 marca uznawane jest za datę śmierci świętego i obchodzone jest w Irlandii od około 1500 lat. Zielony jest narodowym kolorem Irlandii. Barwa ta nawiązuje do trawiastego krajobrazu wyspy i symbolizuje trójlistną koniczynę, za pomocą której św. Patryk tłumaczył niewiernym, czym jest Trójca Święta.
